Can was born and raised in Ankara, Turkiye. He attended Ankara Fen Lisesi (High school) and graduated from Middle East Technical University with B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering. Immediately after graduation, he moved to Palo Alto, CA to pursue graduate study in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University where he obtained his masters and doctorate degrees. During those years in the university, he had various roles in Turkish Student Association. After his Ph.D., he moved to Pittsburgh, PA to work as a Research Associate in Carnegie Mellon University.
His first long-term job in the US was with Acuson Corporation in Mountain View, CA in Advanced Development. After this, he started working for Medtronic Inc. in
Fridley, MN in various roles, most of it in Technology roles with Cardiac Rhythm Management business. In Minnesota, he volunteered in Turkish American
Association of Minnesota (TAAM) as Secretary, Vice President and the President. He has been with Medtronic for almost 29 years and currently works
from his home in East Millcreek, UT.
He has been involved in organizing outdoor activities with Utah Turkish American Association in an unofficial role as he enjoys beautiful Utah outdoors.
Can is married with Evin Gulbahce who is a faculty at University of Utah Medical School and works at Huntsman Cancer Center. They have two children, Baran
and Monika.
