Suzan Tahir

Secretary

Suzan was born in Bulgaria. At age eight, she and her family moved to Sweden for 2 years. Living in this lovely Scandinavian county (as we all know Sweden, is one of the most environmentally proactive and sustainable countries in the world) instilled in Suzan her love for environmental awareness and natural resources. She decided to study environmental engineering and in 1999 she attended one of Turkey’s top five prestigious universities- Middle East Technical University.

Following her passion for higher education brought Suzan to Bradley University (2006) where she got her Master of Science degree in Environmental Science and Utah State University (2014) where she started her PhD program.

For the past 15 years she has been part of Utah Department of Environmental Quality/Division of Water Quality’s dedicated stewards who work restlessly to protect our waterways. She has been in different leading roles which focused on the effects of anthropogenic pollution on Utah’s valuable freshwater wetlands and Utah Lake. In the past 5 years, she has focused on developing wasteload analysis for her agency.

Suzan has an endless love for exploring. She has proclaimed canyoneering to be her soul’s activity, but nonetheless she also loves the outdoors, travelling, swimming, cooking and socializing. Suzan is a proud mama of a 5-year-old daughter and loves to spend every precious second she can find with her toddler. Suzan, her husband and toddler can be found either traveling, exploring new foods like alligator boudin bites, insects, Pho noodle soup, artichoke cooked in olive oil, stuffed cabbage leaves to name a few, dancing, singing, coloring, building blanket tents and gardening.

She lives her life according to her dad’s motto: “Move always forward, one small step at a time but always forward”!
