Director of Social Affairs
Sevda H. Salter has been living in the United States since 2017 and relocated to Utah in 2023. She graduated from Aegean University’s Faculty of Science as Biologist and earned a teaching certificate from the Faculty of Education, equipping her with the credentials to pursue a successful career in education. Sevda dedicated many years to teaching Biology and Science in Turkey, inspiring countless students with her passion.
After moving to the United States with her husband, a medical doctor, and her daughter, Sevda chose to retire from her teaching career. Her academic pursuits included a Ph.D. in Endocrinology and Embryology at Aegean University; however, she made the decision to pause her doctoral studies to focus on motherhood and devote herself to her passion for teaching, profoundly influencing the lives of numerous students.
Throughout her career, Sevda collaborated with Rotary and Lions Clubs Internationals to establish modern science laboratories in public schools, significantly advancing science education and advocating for equal learning opportunities for all children. She also dedicated her efforts to supporting underprivileged children by securing sponsorships and financial aid to help them pursue their education.
Outside of her professional career, Sevda has a deep appreciation for the arts. Alongside her daughter, she actively collects art pieces from various cultures, building an extensive and diverse collection. A lifelong learner, she enjoys reading a wide range of books, expanding her knowledge in various fields. Traveling is another passion of hers, with Barcelona being her favorite city. On sunny days, she finds joy in taking long walks outdoors. Although Sevda has lived in various regions of the United States, she has loved Utah the most, as its Mediterranean vegetation reminds her of the Aegean coast where she lived before moving to America.
Now retired, Sevda currently serves as the Director of Social Activities at the Utah Turkish American Association.
